Housesitting in Portugal

What is housesitting?

Housesitting has increased in Portugal over recent years as an alternative way to travel.

Basically, it’s an exchange of services between volunteers (housesitters) and homeowners, whereby the sitters are on site to look after the owners’ pets and provide security for their home while they’re away for a period of time. In return, the sitters typically enjoy rent-free accommodation.

Usually, the cost of utilities such as gas and electricity, are covered by the host, too. So, for the housesitter, any financial commitment is normally limited to transportation and living costs. Where a financial contribution is required by the host it’s usually stipulated as such in their listing.

For more information, you can read our extensive guide to the world of housesitting.

Ian and Nicky New Zealand

Hi, we're Ian and Nicky, an English couple on a voyage of discovery around the world, and this blog is designed to reflect what we see, think and do. Actually, we'd like to think it also provides information, entertainment and inspiration for other “mature” travellers, too. So please feel free to pour yourself a glass of something suitably chilled and take a look around.
