England

UK travel guide

England is our home country. As is Great Britain. And the United Kingdom.

Yep, sometimes we’re confused, too.

We’re not there very often nowadays. But when we are, we’ll be posting here…

Housesitting in England

What it is and how to get started
What is housesitting?
Housesitting has exploded in England over recent years – and it’s now one of the most popular destinations for this type of travel.

Basically, it’s an exchange of services between volunteers (housesitters) and homeowners, whereby the sitters are on site to look after the owners’ pets and provide security for their home while they’re away for a period of time. In return, the sitters typically enjoy rent-free accommodation.

Usually, the cost of utilities such as gas and electricity, are covered by the host, too. So, for the housesitter, any financial commitment is normally limited to transportation and living costs. Where a financial contribution is required by the host it’s usually stipulated as such in their listing.

For more information, you can read our extensive guide to the world of housesitting.

Get started with Trusted Housesitters

Most newcomers to housesitting get started by registering with one of the main online platforms. The largest of those is Trusted Housesitters who have thousands of opportunities across the world listed at any one time. We’re members, too. And, if you’re interested in registering yourself, we can offer a 25% discount on your first year’s subscription via this direct link.

Ian and Nicky New Zealand

Hi, we're Ian and Nicky, an English couple on a voyage of discovery around the world, and this blog is designed to reflect what we see, think and do. Actually, we'd like to think it also provides information, entertainment and inspiration for other “mature” travellers, too. So please feel free to pour yourself a glass of something suitably chilled and take a look around.
